Global Perspectives on Democracy |

Based upon a successful State Department grant, the Center for International and Development Education (CIDE) in partnership with Relief International (RI) will offer an intensely rich exchange program via a four-week academic residency during Summer 2010 at the University of California Los Angeles, with a focus on the use of new media and its importance to journalism, freedom of expression, politics and civic engagement, as well as how it impacts US History, Culture, Contemporary Society, Education and Racial and Ethnic populations.

Revisitation of the Thai Educational Leadership Institute |

The faculty from Burapha University in Chonburi, Thailand revisited UCLA for a leadership institute that was held in Los Angeles on May 7, 2010. At UCLA, the participants made visits to the National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards and Student Testing (CRESST), the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI), and Center X.

Academic Exchange Program with Nanjing University in China |
CIDE is scheduled to play a role in hosting an academic exchange program with Nanjing University from July 7-11, 2009. The program is entitled “Introduction to American Higher Education and Cultural Exchange” and will focus on the following objectives:
(1) exposure to US higher education, both undergraduate and graduate education, including curriculum, academic credit system and graduation requirements;
(2) opportunities to practice English- reading, writing and conversation with emphasis on participation in a discussion;
(3) exposure to American Culture, especially experiencing that in Southern California and on an university campus;
(4) exposure to college student life in the United States.
